100% AUTHENTIC Nymphenburg x Patrik Muff 2009 Essentials Skull Necklace
 
An exceptionally rare early jewellery piece from Patrik Muff's original 2009 collaboration with the historic Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg.
 
Launched in 2009, Essentials was Nymphenburg's inaugural jewellery collection and explored four fundamental themes of human existence: faith, love, hope and death. Patrik Muff represented these through archetypal symbols, with the skull symbolising death and impermanence. 
 
The original collection combined handcrafted Nymphenburg porcelain with precious-metal components designed by Swiss-born goldsmith Patrik Muff. Contemporary 2009 coverage described the collection as comprising 18 pieces, including necklaces and keyrings, with every porcelain component handmade in Nymphenburg's Munich workshops. 
 
This particular necklace is an original example from the 2009 Essentials collection, featuring the distinctive early skull design in Nymphenburg porcelain with 925 sterling silver. The skull design draws inspiration from an historic Nymphenburg work by celebrated Rococo sculptor Franz Ignaz Günther dating from 1756. It should not be confused with the different skull design currently produced by Nymphenburg.
 
Now approximately 17 years old, this early collaboration piece represents an important period in Nymphenburg's move into contemporary jewellery and is increasingly difficult to source on the secondary market.
